Game of the Week Recap: Governor Mifflin v Daniel Boone

Daniel Boone traveled to Governor Mifflin last week to take on the Mustang in what was the first county game for both teams.  What was a 4-1 halftime lead for Mifflin swelled into an 11-5 victory for the Mustangs.  The win was the first of the season for Mifflin who now sits at 1-2, and the loss brought Boone's record to 1-1.  The story of the game was Mifflin's domination of face offs and ground balls.  At the face of X Mifflin won 14 compared to Boone's 2 face off wins.  Ground balls also hurt Boone as Mifflin had almost twice as many ground balls as Boon.

Governor Mifflin was lead on offense by Ryan Bram (4,1), Derek Nye (3,2) and Zach Schmidt (0,2).  Schmidt's ability to win the face offs really allowed Mifflin to control the ball, and when you add in Mifflin's domination of ground balls, it proved to be too much for Boone.  Six different players scored and over half of the goals were assisted making this a total team effort!  Mifflin's defense held Boone's offense in check, with their long poles scooping up what seemed like every ground ball in their defensive half and pushing the ball up to the offense.  Brandon Weaver had 6 saves in goal.

For Daniel Boon, the loss was their first of the year.  After a slow first half, Boone came out and scored the first goal after halftime.  Just when it looked like things were starting to roll, an injury to a key midfielder, Justin Williams, and penalties slowed things to a halt.

Offensively Boon was lead by Blase Cesarone (3,0) and Timmy Rodgers (2,1).  Defensively goalie Shane Warren kept Boone within striking distance with 12 saves.
